Introducing New Image Upload Options

The new image upload dialog

Today we are excited to introduce a new image upload dialog that you can use to upload pictures from different sources (Facebook, Instagram, Google, etc.) directly into your contests. You now have the option to crop your images to the right size so they fit perfectly in your contest or on Facebook Timeline.

Here is a list of the sources you can choose from when uploading an image:

  • Your Files - Upload a picture from your computer or mobile device. If you are using a mobile device, you can also take a picture on the fly and upload it.

  • Facebook - Choose a picture you posted on Facebook or a picture you were tagged in.

  • Instagram - Select a photo among all those you posted on your Instagram feed.

  • Google Image - Search for an image on Google and import it into your contest. This is perfect when you need a general purpose image for a Timeline post. You could for example search the words "dog", "coffee", or "football" to find an image for a contest about a similar subject.

After choosing an image, you will have the option to crop it. This is especially useful for Timeline post images. Facebook restricts the Timeline post format and your image needs to fit an aspect ratio of 1.9:1. Don't worry if you're not sure about that last sentence. All you need to know is that you now control exactly how your image gets cropped so it fits perfectly on your Page Timeline.

These same options, minus Image Search and cropping, are available to your users when they upload their own image in your contest form. See this example for more details.
